Throughout the Renaissance, traveling troupes of Italian comic actors
improvised their way from the tiniest piazzas in Italy, throughout
Europe, and all the way into the French court.

Spanning three centuries, the masked characters of Italy’s
commedia
dell’arte
tickled the funny bones and captured the imaginations of
royalty and commoner alike.

Dedicated to the art of performance rather than dramatic literature,
these professional artists dominated the European stage and their
influence on comic traditions is still felt today.

It is with a sense of history and the spirit of these Italian Renaissance
players that Ted Wilson founded Commedia del Nuovo Mondo.
